Suburban Split
The transition from city to suburban life can be difficult, but after 10 years in Manhattan, this young family made the leap and put down roots that had space to grow for their (then) 7-month-old son.
Split-Level Sophistication
Their new home checked many of their boxes: close to family and friends, walkable to restaurants and parks; but its style wasn’t one of them. The modified split level from the 70’s gave them plenty of room, but not the sophistication they wanted. What they did love about the house was that it was nearly a clean slate with a large living room perfect for hosting – a big priority with two large families. Along with all the possibility came many overwhelming choices for layout, flow and overall feel.
Drawing on inspiration from the couple’s travels to Greece and Italy, we embraced the white and blue themes they fell in love with at the Casa Morgano Hotel in Capri. We blended this with the couple’s love of The Shore, incorporating seaside colors with sophisticated fabrics and textures that were still appropriate for a functional family home.
A consistent and neutral paint color throughout the living space allows the expanded entryway and its statement wallpaper to make a grand impression. Dimension, texture and pattern in the textiles and artwork pop against the perfect gray background. In the living room, performance upholstery on the large sectional couch is sophisticated but also stands up to the family’s young son and rambunctious puggle. Crisp white built-ins look beautiful but also keep toys and games hidden away when it’s time to entertain.
In the dining area, a custom, spacious banquette has already hosted many family dinners. Surrounded by organic materials and fun pops of color, it’s an inviting space that functions as well for a boisterous holiday meal as it does for an elegant dinner party. This cozy, polished and inviting home is now the perfect place for our clients to stretch out and enjoy.
