High Design Downsize
a fresh start
With her children grown, flown and married, our client was ready to downsize, but without sacrificing the inviting feel of a family home.
New construction can be challenging to bring an inviting lived-in feeling to, but we did so with eclectic pieces and plenty of color and texture. Right at the entryway, you’re greeted with textured walls that feature gold metal wrapped sconces that double as artwork. Above the wood and marble dining table, an abstract painting brings a pop of color and interest that make you want to see more.
Our client’s travels influenced many of her decisions such as the dramatic chandelier in the office, inspired by a recent Safari trip and hand-made in South Africa. Dark grasscloth paper, luxurious drapery and dark casework are balanced with lots of light and more high ceilings
The open floor plan of the kitchen, family room and outdoor dining and lounging spaces meant they all needed to flow and work together. A simple color scheme, white walls and the visual focal point of the custom plastered fireplace help it feel cohesive and cozy. The outdoor loggia lures you outside with natural rattan seating and another inviting fireplace
In the primary bedroom, we created a cocoon of grays, teals, and texture and at night the room glows - reminiscent of a luxurious hotel suite. The en suite bathroom was saved from its white, sterile new construction feel with soft, feminine wallpaper.
The upstairs loft became a dedicated grandchild space with room to play, study, read or even watch a movie. Special attention was even paid to the additional bathrooms with modern lighting and bold wallpaper choices – an unexpected factor that speaks to our client’s unique yet sophisticated style
