Clean and modern - with subtle beach vibes

Good bones and an open mind are the foundation for this Colonial refresh.

When our clients outgrew their 3-bedroom home in Glen Rock, NJ, they knew they wanted to stay in Bergen County where they had started their family. With the geographical parameters set, they house hunted with an open mind, and when they walked into this 1970's Center Hall Colonial, they saw potential everywhere.

While there were features and outdated elements that would have to go, they both recognized that the house had great bones and expansion opportunities.

While the home's architectural style is Colonial, the interior updates embrace more clean, modern elements with a blend of subtle beach vibes. The main living area was designed for entertaining and combines traditional and modern textures and patterns. The curve of the sofa softens the room and invites you in, while the antelope rug and shagreen coffee table give the space a global feel. Loose weave window treatments and mirrors were used to let in and reflect the light, creating an ethereal feel on a sunny day.

A simple sideboard with pink quartz hardware

The dining room has a distinctly Scandinavian approach with chalky gray walls and a creamy white Gustavian table.

To keep the room visually sleek and understated, window treatments were chosen in the same hue as the wall color. Dusty rose armchairs are the subtle standout, which were matched to the pink quartz knobs on the sideboard.

Coastal chic in primary bedroom

Soaking tub with views…

In the renovated primary suite, generous space was given for a slipper couch for relaxing at the beginning or end of the day. The en suite is an oasis with a soaking tub that overlooks their nearly two acre property. A modern light fixture is a perfect foil for the traditional trim work that adorns the walls and ceiling.

A moody and restful guest room

A soothing and sophisticated home office

This home is also the "home base" of the owner's event planning business, so her office was given special attention and a more modern twist with geometric tape trim and metallic grass cloth on the ceiling eaves.

A crisp frette pattern and rope pendant in their boy’s room - with swappable art as he grows up…

A beautiful shade to compliment the scenery

bucket of fresh flowers

This refreshed family home is now ready to collect more moments and memories thanks to our clients' open minds and imagination.
