GLOBE-TROTTING FAMILY

After living in Singapore and traveling the world with their two children for many years, our clients had decided to put down roots in a former ranch-style home that had been converted into a
center-hall colonial.

Arriving without much furniture, but lots of mementos from their travels, we prioritized incorporating their collections into every space of the house. In the music room, the family’s grand piano, which their children play every day, became the center stage. Around it we created a comfortable, yet sophisticated retreat with dark navy grasscloth walls, star patterned wallpaper on the ceiling, layered vintage rugs, brass etagere (full of meaningful mementos!), and comfy upholstered furniture.

A butler’s pantry leads into a dining room where the family’s inherited mid century dining set was reupholstered and put to great use.

A striking chinoiserie mural wallcovering was installed above the wainscotting that is both colorful and eye-catching while also maintaining the sophistication of a formal dining room. The outdated butler’s pantry was reimagined to resemble a French bistro with brass shelving and an antique-mirror backsplash but with functional features too including a wine refrigerator, garbage disposal and dishwasher. But at the end of the day, the family’s treasured items from their travels, and the attention paid to them, are what both set this house apart and make it feel like home for our clients.
