VIBRANT + SOPHISICATED

Having moved from trendy Astoria, NY, these owners were looking to retain some of the urban flair in this 1920’s suburban Tutor home.

While they wanted the house to be vibrant and sophisticated, it also needed to be comfortable and not overly fussy for their family. While these former globe-trotting city dwellers’ lifestyle had changed, their aesthetic had not, so we set to work creating a bright, hip home that checked all their boxes.

Inspired by wallpaper at The Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia, famously decorated by Dorothy Draper, our client wanted something lively and bright on the walls to set the stage.

To balance that movement, sleek mid century furniture that had been handed down to the client was used in both the dining room and living room, giving the home a familial tie to the past. The chairs were refinished and upholstered in a honeycomb pattern - playing off the floral wallpaper.

In the living room, the credenza was repurposed to hold a record player for after dinner dance parties.  Fun modern art balances the chinoiserie and floral patterns used throughout the house, while a consistent color palette ties each space together.
